|Do I need planning permission? (Householder)||
Some alterations to your home may not require planning permission and could be carried out as a permitted development, if they satisfy certain limits and conditions. These may include the following:-

The Development Control section is here to help you with planning applications, planning enquiries and enforcement. We cover the whole of Copeland excluding the Lake District National Park. We have split the section into two teams to ensure you get the best possible service. The section is divided into a north and south team as shown on the map below.

|Copeland SHLAA - final August 2013||
The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment has now been completed and the final report is being circulated to interested parties for comment. Note that this is an evidence base document designed to show that the Borough has enough developable land to meet its needs; decisions as to which sites are allocated for development will be made in the Site Allocation phase of the new Local Plan or LDF, on which the public debate will begin early next year.

We try to determine most applications at officer level under the approved scheme of delegation. Any applications which cannot be dealt with at officer level are determined by the Planning Panel. |Application for outline planning permission||
This form is generally used to find out, at an early stage, whether or not a proposal is likely to be approved by the planning authority, before any substantial costs are incurred.
This type of planning application allows fewer details about the proposal to be submitted. These details may be agreed following a “reserved matters” application at a later stage.
